Frequently Asked Questions
What does handmade mean?
I am aware that we live in an age of drop shipping and especially with some bigger manufacturers it is questionable how much local manual labour goes into their dice.
When I say my dice are handmade it means that I do every step myself by hand in my workshop: I handpolish my master dice (the 3D printing of which is the only step I outsource to another small artist), I make my own silicone molds with these masters, I create the different dice designs and pour them with epoxy resin, I meticulously sand, polish and ink the dice manually and also take all the product photos myself.
Are your dice balanced?
As the great Aabria Iyengar has said: “little peak behind the curtains.. the only fair dice are the ones that casinos use”.
So no, my dice are probably not perfectly balanced. But psst, neither are the factory-made ones from your local game store.
However, I generally do my best to make them as balanced as possible. That means for example making big inclusions out of the same resin as the rest of the die, to not affect the center of gravity. In general all the inclusions have roughly the same density as the resin.
At the end of the day my dice are functional art pieces and they are balanced enough to have a good time at home with your friends. :)
Do you do commissions?
Generally speaking: yes. I like doing commissions and working with inspirations you come up with. However, depending on my general workload and the amount of already ongoing commissions, there might only be waiting list spots available or commissions might be temporarily closed. On Instagram the info is usually most up to date regarding this but feel free to also just send me a message if you are interested in a commission and I can let you know what the current status is.
Please note that the average wait time is 1-2 months from the time you place your commission to delivery.
What is the quality of your dice?
I wouldn’t call myself a professional dice maker, since I do not do this as my job. At the same time I’m a perfectionist by nature and have very high standards for myself. I strive to give my dice the best finish I can and try to always improve. So I think it is fair to say that you can expect a “professional” quality from my dice.
Still, they are handmade items, so small irregularities or imperfections such as small mold or polishing marks or micro surface bubbles do occur. They are purely cosmetic, don’t affect rolling and are mostly only noticeable if you go looking for them. If there are bigger flaws I do my best to list those with the individual dice and I do implement an A-grade/B-grade system, where B-grade sets have clear cosmetic flaws and come at a discounted price.
Why are your restocks small and irregular?
Dice making is something I do in my free time besides working a full time job. I very much enjoy the creative outlet and sharing it with other people. Still, depending on a plethora of life circumstance, my time dedicated to making dice fluctuates quite a bit. I’m the only one behind Goblin’s Hoard and at the end of the day I am a human being and not a factory. :)
How do I best take care of my dice?
Resin does oxidize and change over time. To enjoy your dice for a long time store them away from sunlight to prevent discolouration and roll them on a soft surface to best preserve the sharp edges.
